Each year there is a new line-up and exciting new things in store. The festival has several exciting acts, hosting contemporary music performances, dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other art forms. Arriving at the falls Music Festival for the first time we had no idea what to expect, we had only heard great things and were super excited to arrive and get involved. The weekend was one we wont forget and couldn't be more grateful for, huge thank you to the Falls Festival Team for having us and we are super excited to share our experience with you all. If your thinking of going to one of the 4 venues for 2017/18 we would highly recommend you go, the atmosphere of the event is one we have never experienced and we are already counting down for new years 2017. All cars were lead in by incredible volunteers in a orderly fashion, once you were parked that was your new home for the next 4 days. Camp was set up and it was time to explore what Falls had to offer. There was extremely easy access to toilets, food and anything else you could think of from most campsites with the ones further away needing a 5 or so minute walk. We were a group from South Australia, some endured the road trip up others flew over. There are plenty of options for your travels there depending on where you are and what location of Falls your heading to. After flying over a quick train was taken were we drove to Lorne once we got off. The campgrounds are equally spectacular, surrounded by native forest and beautiful scenery. The beach is just a short bus ride away so you can have a swim throughout the day. The festival had every type of food you could think of ! From vegan options to the good old Aussie toasty everything was at your fingertips. There was food surrounding not only the campsites but also in the festival with prices averaging $12-15 for a meal. If your thinking of going be sure to bring some of your own snacks, there are plenty of food options but over 4 days this can be a little bit pricey or just remember to put aside money for food. Overall the food quality was more than impressive, and always hit the spot every morning after the night before and prepares you for the day ahead. There was a large Carlton Dry tent offering beer and cider for those wishing to buy drinks. No alcohol was aloud to be bought into the event so these tents were very popular. With each can being $9, drinks were also available in the festival were tickets were pre-purchased to get “tokens”. This was extremely handy in not losing money and much easier to buy drinks with. All the staff were super kind and always happy to help out which made the experience even better. The Carlton Dry tent also offered free wifi, so for those who need to keep updated and cant keep of there phones this was the perfect spot to check-in as for certain users there was no reception. There was plenty of activities going on for every type of person, from daily yoga each morning to a silent disco for those wanting to continue on once the acts had finished up in the festival. Not to mention the continuing acts and there was something for everyone, the atmosphere was just incredible and one that you would get no where else. The performances were the obvious highlight and this is a breakdown of how our days went: Wednesday Night caught me at the Northeast Party House and Grandmaster Flash were dozens of people were streaming into the Grand Theatre ready to begin there Falls weekend. Going into the second day after a relaxing morning, getting back into the groove of Falls we made our way into the festival extremely excited to see AlunaGeorge and Illy. These two definitely did not disappoint and was one of the highlights of the festival, with a lovely sunny afternoon these two had the crowds with every moment the crowds roaring along to favourites such as the hit single ‘paper cuts’. AlunaGeorge turned up the heat with her flawless performance. These two definitely drew a large crowd as the atmosphere boosted as each song went along. The night continued on with incredible performances another highlight was the Broods who definitely another highlight performance and much more to my surprised was another favourite act with the night seeing on and wrapping up with the one and only Childish Gambino, with the festival rushing to see the man himself he definitely did not disappoint with his super mellow sounds captivating the whole audience. The third day was definitely unexpected and all condolences goes out to anyone included within the unfortunate event. The layout was not ideal but we are glad to hear everyone got out as safe as they possibly could. These type of events are never planned and it was an unfortunate circumstance. Our team couldn't be happier with the way the situation got dealt with and especially the vibe from the festival goers for the remainder of the event. There was respect within the situation amongst the crowd with participants leaving space around them for the remainder of the performances and always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. Approaching the rest of the day ahead, although with the weather not being in favour this would have had to have been one of the coldest nights of the festival as I struggled to move from the warmth of the tent. The line up for the night consisted of many Aussie favourites such as the one and only Bernard Fanning followed by Matt Corby attracting massive crowds. With a outstanding set from Violent Soho I would have to say DMA’s took the night away in the Grand theatre followed by London Grammar. The final day crept up on all of us, with the past 3 days being some of the most incredible experiences I was looking forward to the day ahead ready to enjoy the last night of 2016. Surrounded by an absolutely amazing group of people we drew ourselves into the festival were the crowds were starting early for the amazing Jamie T and Catfish and the Bottlemen whilst POND bought there rock sounds bringing up the atmosphere. Over at the Valley Stage The Rubens stole the show as a favourite of ours followed by the incredible performance from The Avalanches taking us all into the great year of 2017 and giving the most memorable moment of the whole festival to many. As the night went on finishing off the festival was no other than LDRU, dominating his set and making 2017 a New Years not to forget. Mixing with some all time favourite LDRU had us captivated right until the final song. And just in a blink of our eyes it was all over. First year of many is what I can end on, in the middle of one of the most incredible forest Falls Festival 2016/17 is one I won’t forget. This year was the first of many and I couldn’t thank all the staff and volunteers enough. Heres to counting down to Falls 2017/18. The Bikinfox team xx
